Between September 8 and 11, 2025, Bali experienced its most severe flooding in over a decade, resulting in at least 19 confirmed deaths and 10 individuals still missing. The capital city, Denpasar, along with the surrounding regions of Gianyar, Badung, Tabanan, and Jembrana, were particularly affected. Torrential rains, with up to 385 mm falling within 24 hours, led to rivers overflowing, landslides, and the collapse of buildings. The floods inundated at least 112 neighborhoods, with water levels rising up to 2.5 meters in some areas. Approximately 500 people were evacuated to emergency shelters, including schools and mosques .

The disaster caused significant infrastructure damage, including the collapse of two buildings in Denpasar and the blockage of major roads, including access to Ngurah Rai International Airport. Rescue operations involved over 600 personnel, including military and disaster response teams, who focused on searching for the missing, evacuating residents, and clearing debris. Despite the cessation of rainfall and receding water levels, recovery efforts continue, with authorities working to restore essential services and repair damaged infrastructure .

The Indonesian government has declared a state of emergency and is coordinating with local authorities to provide aid and support. In addition to immediate relief efforts, discussions are underway regarding long-term strategies to mitigate future flood risks, including infrastructure improvements and environmental conservation measures. The recent events have underscored the vulnerability of Bali to extreme weather events, highlighting the need for enhanced preparedness and resilience in the face of climate change-induced challenges .
